Wynnstay Park

Shooting_Times_Cover.jpg Established for twenty five years with thirty two named drives from game cover crops over deep wooded valleys. Featured in the Shooting Times this season and described as "the classic driven game shoot with superb high birds". Wynnstay Park is only a short drive from Ruabon Moor and provides top quality sport. Back to back days can sometimes be aranged.

Wynnstay Park is a 3,500 acre estate close to Ruabon, near Wrexham in North Wales.
Although essentially a private estate and home to an illustrious Welsh sporting family, we offer a number of let days to private clients; including wandering syndicates, from both Britain and overseas, experienced corporate parties and intimate family groups.
We pride ourselves on gauging exactly what our clients are looking for and we’re delighted to adapt a day to suit the visiting team of guns and their non-shooting guests, if required.

The type of sport offered at Wynnstay Park was beautifully summed up by Mr. Tony Jackson, the former Editor of The Shooting Times, who described the pheasants here as “classically driven; high, but not absurdly un-shootable.”
The Head-keeper, who hails from a family that have been keepers for several generations, and has almost thirty drives on which to call upon.  The day usually takes the following format.
The guns may take coffee during the Shoot Captain’s pre-shoot safety briefing, taking their pegs for the first drive at around 9.30.
Depending on which format the guns would like to take, they will shoot another two or three drives before taking a light snack or a full four course lunch. If the team prefers to ‘shoot-through,’ then they can be fortified with soup and sausages after the third drive. The main meal can be arranged for after the rigors of the day; perfect for discussing the bird that everyone saw you miss so spectacularly!
The drives here can vary from snap-shooting in woodland rides, pheasants storming towards the guns below in an oak-studded valley, to guns taking their pegs besides tinkling streams. There’s certainly plenty of variety.

The fascinating walled city of Chester, rich in history and with everything for those seeking serious retail therapy, is little more than twenty minutes away. It is perfect for those combining some sport with a mini break. Of course, Chester has a multitude of accommodation options, but for those that wish to stay a little nearer the action, there are several choices from cosy and inviting traditional inns, to lavish country club hotels. There is certainly something to suit all requirements and budgets.
